Prep & Smart To Pack

Prepare your self for being outside all day

You will be spending your days outside on the beach practicing yoga most of the time. This information will help you prepare for that, what you can expect and what things are good to bring with you to make your stay as comfortable and fun as possible.

SAFETY Nicaragua is considered the safest country in Central America with the lowest crime rate and so far we have had no incidents but we want to remind you of being mindful and never go swimming or hiking alone. Also never leave any valuable items unguarded.

INTERNET  There is poor internet in Ostional because of its remote location. It is a great opportunity for you to digitally detox. You will have access to reliable internet during the days of if you decide to go to San Juan del Sur (one hour away with local bus). We also drive to the near Coco beach when we need to get online. There are alos prepaid internet plans for your phone to buy in Nicaragua. If you need help please ask us and we will be happy to assist you.

HEALTH Make sure you are up to date on vaccinations, contact your health care center before traveling. The most common question we get is about the mosquitos. There are little mosquitos in the area in and around Ostional because it is often very windy and most mosquitos are in the forest, inland. We recommend that you bring mosquito repellent and a mosquito net on your travel.

MONEY Bring US$ in small bills and your ATM card. There are a few small shops in Ostional where you can buy snacks and drinks. San Juan del Sur is one hour away with the local bus which costs 10 US$. You also might want to bring some extra cash for boat tours or kaiak rent.

TIPPING Tipping is customary but not obligatory. Our guests usually tip the staff (cleaning and cooking staff at the YOGA RANCH) with 2-4 US$ per day from each one of the students. That will be 40 – 80 US$ from every student for the whole period, not much but it is up to you what you tip.

WELCOME TO OSTIONAL People in the village are happy to welcome you. Please be respectful of the locals and their village. Be mindful of you behavior while you are a guest in Ostional. You might want to learn a few phrases in Spanish to make your stay more fun and interesting. It is always very polity to try speaking the native tongue even if you only know a few words. In Ostional we greet people on the street or on the beach even if we do not know them 🙂
